A rent register contains the amount of the taxes (the rent) paid for
each tenure (parcel, house...). It also mentions the modifications (death,
inheritance, new tenants...); that's why the text is often annotated
or crossed out.
Such a document is particularly interesting for genealogists, because
it is older than the parish records (this rent register dates from the
first half of 16th century). It doesn't permit one to establish a continuous
genealogy but it permits one to identify the presence of a patronymic
in a locality. That's why the genealogist who is interested in the W(E)ISLING
family of the Thur River Valley will be happy to know that a man called
W(E)ISLING lived in the small village of Mollau in the reign of Charles
the Fifth.
